What is a capper? Sports handicappers, touts and sharps
By Karel Moreau, editor of sportspicksdiscord ·
A capper — short for handicapper — is someone who sells sports betting picks. "Handicapping" is the work of analysing a game to find a bet worth making. Today most cappers sell through paid Discord servers, with Whop handling the subscription and access. What you are buying is their opinion, not a result: there is no such thing as a guaranteed pick.
What cappers sell, from 53 live listings
The 53 picks communities this site tracks are almost all cappers or small capper teams. How they price:
| 3-day / multi-day passes | 7 |
|---|---|
| weekly | 15 |
| bi-weekly | 9 |
| monthly | 17 |
| other | 5 |
Normalised to 30 days, prices run from $20 to $3,000, with the middle half between $43 and $107. Short passes look cheap and cost the most per month: a $15 three-day pass is $150 over 30 days.
Capper vs tout vs sharp
| Capper / handicapper | Sells picks based on their own analysis. Can be good or bad; the record is the evidence. |
|---|---|
| Tout | Pejorative term for a picks seller whose marketing outruns the record — "locks", "guaranteed", screenshots of wins only. |
| Sharp | A bettor who consistently beats the closing line. Most sharps do not sell picks, because selling moves the lines they bet. |
How to judge a capper
- Full, dated record in units at real odds — including losses, from before the games started.
- Enough picks to mean something — a few hundred minimum; about 1,500 to separate a 55% capper from a break-even one. Why.
- Closing line value — do their picks beat the closing price? It is the best early signal of real skill. How CLV works.
- No "locks", no guarantees. 8 listings we track carry a guaranteed-results flag and 9 an income-claims flag; 7 state that all sales are final.
- Subscription priced against your unit size. The cheaper your units, the better the capper has to be just to cover the fee.

Frequently asked questions

The same thing — a person who handicaps games to find bets worth making and, if they sell picks, charges for access to them.
Are cappers worth paying for?
Only if their verified record clears break-even at real odds by enough to cover the subscription at your unit size. Most records are too short to prove that.
What is the difference between a capper and a tout?
A tout is a picks seller whose marketing — locks, guarantees, win-only screenshots — outruns the evidence. Capper is the neutral term.
How much do cappers charge?
Across the 53 we track, 30-day equivalent prices run from $20 to $3,000, middle half $43–$107.
